The high technical barriers, mature supply chain, and flexible business models in the electrolytic manganese dioxide (EMD) industry collectively form its industry barriers and competitive advantages. Through continuous technological innovation, optimized supply chain management, and flexible adjustments to business models, these factors collectively ensure the stability and competitiveness of the EMD industry in a complex market environment...

The EMD (Electrolytic Manganese Dioxide) industry is characterized by high technical barriers, primarily due to its complex production processes.

Producing EMD involves multiple precise chemical reactions and operations, such as acidification, impurity removal, filtration, and electrolysis, which demand extremely high production technology standards. Additionally, the accumulation of core technologies and intellectual property rights is also a crucial factor. These technical barriers encompass not only production technology but also industry certifications and standards, raising the entry barriers for newcomers. Enterprises must meet specific quality and safety standards to enter the market. Such high standards ensure product quality and the strictness of market access.

A mature supply chain is one of the core factors contributing to the competitiveness of the EMD industry.

In terms of raw materials, enterprises need to ensure a stable supply of key raw materials such as rhodochrosite or pyrolusite. By producing various types of EMD, enterprises can flexibly meet the demands of different battery types, thereby enhancing the adaptability and responsiveness of their supply chains.

A flexible business model is a key strategy for the EMD industry to cope with market changes.

Different types of EMD products cater to different battery markets: for example, P-type EMD is used in P-type batteries, alkaline manganese-type and high-performance alkaline manganese-type EMD are used in mercury-free alkaline manganese batteries, while lithium manganese-type and LMO-type EMD are used in lithium batteries. Taking Xiangtan Electrochemical as an example, by developing a diverse range of new energy material products, the enterprise has enhanced its market competitiveness. When raw material prices fluctuate or downstream demand changes, enterprises can flexibly adjust their business models through market segmentation and product differentiation strategies.

In summary, the high technical barriers, mature supply chain, and flexible business model of the EMD industry collectively form its industry barriers and competitive advantages. Through continuous technological innovation, optimized supply chain management, and flexible adjustment of business models, these factors collectively ensure the stability and competitiveness of the EMD industry in a complex market environment.

Before the holiday, the black chain is unlikely to see a trend-driven market [SMM Steel Industry Chain Weekly Report].
This week, ferrous metals were in the doldrums, with coking coal and coke staging a mid-week rise. At the beginning of the week, financial markets experienced sharp fluctuations, dragging down sentiment in the ferrous chain and leading to a pullback in futures. Mid-week, Indonesia's cut to coke production quotas drove coking coal and coke futures to lead the gains, though the impact was more pronounced on thermal coal, while coking coal's rise was largely sentiment-driven and short-lived. In the latter part of the week, finished products continued their seasonal inventory buildup, and support from the raw material side weakened, causing the entire ferrous chain to pull back. In the spot market, with the Chinese New Year holiday approaching, purchasing activity slowed down further, with end-users only making limited, as-needed purchases at low prices.
